How Clariti Saves Syracuse, New York, Staff 260+ Work Hours Each Month
Faced with outdated, paper-based processes, increasing permit demand, and staff retirements, the City of Syracuse desperately needed a new system to sustain operations.
Challenges
In 2020, while confronting the impacts on staffing due to Covid-19 and retirements, the city recognized that it could no longer operate effectively with its paper-based approval processes which created significant permitting and licensing bottlenecks. The staggering amount of time the city and its constituents were losing in completing paper applications had become unsustainable.
The city turned to Clariti for a solution that would help their understaffed team keep operations going.
Improvements
The city wanted an intuitive and intelligent online permitting and licensing system that could help improve its residential and commercial building permitting processes without putting too much strain on staff.
They opted for Clariti’s user-friendly and highly configurable Launch solution which, despite staff shortages and unprecedented challenges due to the pandemic, helped the city go above and beyond the needs and expectations of its developer and business community.

Working Together to Co-Design & Configure
The city and Clariti worked collaboratively to implement the Clariti Launch permitting system which was an iterative process. The city provided application types and priorities to the Clariti team which were then configured to the city’s unique specifications.
Rather than presenting a specific vision for each submission or relying on a series of aged PDFs, the city provided Clariti with individual requirements to build its construction, fire permits (more than 30 types) and inspections. The implementation was optimized by the city’s deep proficiency and Clariti’s extensive systems and customer knowledge.

Faster Processing and Reduced Inconvenience
The City has digitized processes and cut down the amount of time required to apply, process and inspect applications and documents. The new online services made it so applicants no longer needed to visit the department. -
Staff Save Over 260 Hours Of Work Per Month
Within 12 months, Syracuse saved 3,126 hours in staff time (averaging 260 per month) by deploying Clariti Launch permitting system, resulting in a total of $93,766* in financial savings for the city.
